Understanding MRI Technology

MRI is a game-changer in medical checkups. It uses strong magnets and radio waves to snap detailed inside pictures of you. It's safer than X-rays since it skips the radiation.

At Seviyaar, our top-notch MRI machines grab super clear shots of everything from organs to bones. It’s a quick, easy way for doctors to spot problems like sports injuries or brain issues. Our tech can find things that other scans might miss, giving your doctor a complete view for a spot-on diagnosis and helping figure out what to do next. The MRI magnets line up water molecules in your body, and radio waves make them send back signals. Then, our computers turn those signals into detailed images.

Common Conditions Diagnosed Through MRI

  • Brain and Spine Disorders: MRI excels at detecting brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, stroke damage, spinal cord injuries, and herniated discs. The detailed images reveal abnormalities in brain structure, blood vessel issues, and inflammation that affects the nervous system.
  • Joint and Muscle Problems: From torn ligaments and tendons to cartilage damage and arthritis, MRI provides clear visualization of soft tissue injuries. Athletes often rely on MRI scans to diagnose sports-related injuries and track healing progress during rehabilitation.
  • Heart and Blood Vessel Issues: Cardiac MRI evaluates heart structure, function, and blood flow patterns. It helps identify congenital heart defects, areas damaged by heart attacks, inflammation of the heart muscle, and problems with blood vessels including aneurysms.
  • Abdominal Organ Assessment: MRI effectively examines the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and other abdominal organs. It can detect tumors, cysts, inflammation, blockages, and other abnormalities that may cause unexplained abdominal pain or digestive issues.

Preparing for Your MRI Appointment

To get the best MRI images, it’s important to prep well. Before you come in

  • Tell us about any metal implants, pacemakers, or medical devices you have. They might mess with the scan.
  • Take off all jewellery, watches, credit cards, and anything metal before you go into the MRI room.
  • Wear comfort, loose clothes that don’t have metal zippers or buttons.
  • If your scan needs contrast dye, don’t eat for 4-6 hours before.

Also, tell us if you have any allergies, kidney issues, or if you’re pregnant. If you’re worried about feeling claustrophobic or anxious, some people get a little something to help them relax.

Please show up 15 minutes early to fill out some forms and change into a gown if needed. Bring your prescription, old scans, and insurance info with you. Our team will walk you through everything and answer any questions you might have.

Latest MRI Technology at Seviyaar

  • 3 Tesla MRI System: Our advanced 3T MRI delivers superior image resolution compared to standard machines. This powerful magnet strength provides exceptional detail for complex neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardiac imaging, reducing scan times while improving diagnostic confidence.
  • Wide-Bore Design: Understanding patient anxiety, we’ve invested in wide-bore MRI technology that offers 70cm of space—significantly more comfortable than traditional machines. This design accommodates larger patients and helps reduce claustrophobia during scanning procedures.
  • Silent Scan Technology: Our MRI incorporates noise-reduction features that dramatically decrease the loud sounds typically associated with scanning.
  • Rapid Imaging Sequences: Advanced software protocols allow us to complete many scans faster without sacrificing quality.

MRI Safety and Side Effects

MRIs are super safe for imaging. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, they don’t use radiation, so there’s no worry about radiation causing cancer.

Sometimes, the contrast dye can cause a mild allergic reaction, but it’s rare and easy to take care of. If you have metal implants, a pacemaker, or cochlear implants, you might not be able to have an MRI because of the strong magnetic field. If you’re in your first three months of pregnancy, it’s best to avoid MRIs unless you really need one.

FAQs

How long does an MRI take?

Most MRIs take 30-60 minutes, but it depends on the body part and if dye is needed. Some may take up to 90 minutes. We'll let you know the time when you book.

Is MRI painful or uncomfortable?

No, it's painless. You lie still on a table. Some feel uneasy in the machine, but our machines have more space. Staying still is the hardest part.

Can I get an MRI with metal in my body?

It depends. Most implants are fine. Old pacemakers and some metal might be a problem. Tell us about any metal so we can check if it's safe.

Will I need contrast dye for my MRI?

Not always. It helps show blood vessels and issues that your doctor is trying to find. It's injected through an IV and might sting a bit.

Can I eat before my MRI scan?

Usually, yes. But for abdominal scans or if you need dye, you might need to skip food for 4-6 hours beforehand. We'll give you instructions when you schedule.

What should I wear to my MRI appointment?

Wear comfortable clothes without metal zippers, buttons, or underwire. Don't wear jewelry or watches. You might change into a gown, depending on what we're scanning.

Can I bring someone with me?

Sure. They can wait in the waiting room. They can't come into the room unless we say it's okay because of the magnet.
